== Skinwalker Ranch — The Bulletproof Wolf and Cryptid Encounters == === The Bulletproof Wolf === Terry Sherman's first major encounter — and the one that established the template for the anomalous physics of the Sherman era — was the confrontation with a massive wolf-like creature: * Size: approximately three times that of a normal wolf or coyote; compared to the long-extinct dire wolf (Canis dirus) * Sherman fired multiple rounds at the creature at close range with a rifle * The animal appeared completely unaffected — shaking off bullets as if they caused no injury * It eventually walked away without a blood trail or any indication of injury * The apparent bulletproofing places it outside any known biological framework This encounter established the "anomalous physics" quality of the Sherman-era phenomena: not merely unusual creatures or lights, but events that specifically violated what should be physically possible. === The Dogs' Destruction by Orb === The Sherman family's cattle dogs chased a glowing blue orb that appeared on the property one night. The dogs ran toward the orb and disappeared — apparently destroyed by whatever phenomenon they had approached. The family searched and found only greasy spots on the grass where the dogs had last been running. No physical remains were found. This event was among the most distressing the family experienced during their tenure. === Colm Kelleher's Tree Creature: March 12, 1997 === The most specifically documented cryptid encounter occurred during the NIDS era. On the night of March 12, 1997, biochemist Colm Kelleher observed a large humanoid creature watching the research team from a tree approximately 50 yards away. Kelleher's account: * The creature was large, humanoid, positioned in the tree at a height suggesting considerable size and weight * It was watching the research team from approximately 50 yards distance * Kelleher grabbed a rifle and fired; the creature fled * He investigated and found a single oval track approximately 6 inches in diameter embedded in snow * The track had two sharp claws protruding from the rear — "almost like a bird of prey, maybe a raptor print, but huge and, from the depth of the print, from a very heavy creature" This track — documented by a credentialed scientist who was not the primary experiencer — is the most specific physical evidence from any cryptid encounter at the ranch. === Additional Cryptid Reports === Multiple additional cryptid sightings accumulated across all eras: * Bigfoot-type creatures at various distances * Bipedal creatures observed by NIDS field researchers * Anomalous large animal tracks at multiple locations on the property * Beings that appeared and disappeared without transition === The Skinwalker Connection === The bulletproof wolf and the tree creature have both been connected to the Navajo skinwalker tradition — the shapeshifting malevolent witch capable of assuming any animal form. The Ute oral tradition specifically describes skinwalkers as large, black, hairy humanoid figures with enormous coal-red eyes. The creature seen by Kelleher in a tree — large, humanoid, apparently bipedal — is consistent with this description.
