== Stanton Friedman -- Kathleen Marden: The Research Partnership == === Who Kathleen Marden Is === {| class="wikitable" |- ! Field !! Detail |- | Full name || Kathleen Marden |- | Relationship to Betty Hill || Niece; Betty Hill's sister's daughter; grew up knowing Betty and Barney Hill personally |- | Professional background || Director of Experiencer Research for MUFON; author; researcher; hypnotherapist trained to work with experiencers |- | Connection to Friedman || Met through shared interest in the Betty and Barney Hill case; co-authored three books with Friedman |- | Key books with Friedman || "Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience" (2007); "Science Was Wrong" (2010); "Fact, Fiction, and Flying Saucers" (2016) |} === The Personal Connection to the Hill Case === Kathleen Marden's connection to the Betty and Barney Hill abduction case is unique among researchers: she knew Betty and Barney personally, visited their home as a niece, and had her own exposure to the physical evidence of their experience. She saw Betty's torn dress, the pink powder on her shoes, and other physical details that were not part of the public record when she first encountered them. This firsthand access to the family context -- the trauma, the changes in Betty and Barney's behavior after the encounter, the physical evidence -- gave Marden a research foundation that complemented Friedman's documentary and scientific approach. === The Collaboration with Friedman === The Friedman-Marden collaboration produced the most thoroughly researched treatment of the Hill case in the literature. "Captured!" (2007) incorporated: * Previously unreleased audio recordings from Betty and Barney's hypnotic regression sessions * Medical and psychological documentation from the case file * New interviews with surviving witnesses to the Hills' pre- and post-encounter behavior * Analysis of the physical evidence (Betty's dress, Barney's binoculars, the car) by independent experts * Friedman's scientific analysis of the star map question === Marden's Independent Research === Following Friedman's death in 2019, Kathleen Marden has continued as an independent researcher, maintaining the rigorous standards she developed in her collaboration with Friedman. She has published additional work on abduction research and has been a significant voice in the continuing UFO disclosure discussion. === The Hill Family Archive === Betty Hill maintained extensive personal archives of the couple's experience -- correspondence, notes, drawings, and documentation. Access to this archive, facilitated by Marden's family relationship, provided research material unavailable to any other scholar. Some of this material found its way into "Captured!" and into Marden's subsequent publications.
