[edit | edit source]

The National Security Agency (NSA) is an intelligence agency of the United States federal government responsible for global monitoring, collection, and processing of information and data for foreign intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. It specializes in signals intelligence (SIGINT) and information assurance, protecting U.S. government communications and data systems from cyber threats.

The NSA operates under the Department of Defense and is also known as the Central Security Service (CSS), which integrates its operations with other military cryptologic activities.
