FOO FIGHTERS Shiny metallic-looking sphere seen floating in the skies in World War II from 1943 on wards. After the war, neither side claimed to have sent them up there. The Americans called them "foo fighters", a term derived from a comic-strip phrase "Where there's foo, there's fire."
