First, a brief history of UFO Research (S.A.) Inc.
In 1968 a group of individuals with an interest in UFOs became
somewhat disenchanted with the UFO "clubs" of the day. They had a
strong desire to disassociate themselves from the "lunatic fringe"
element, who would regularly pop up on television declaring that
every "light in the sky" was our space brothers coming to save
us. So a research group was formed to investigate reports of
Unidentified Flying Objects and related phenomena.
The name of that organization was "UFO Research". The
organization became an Incorporated body in 1975, and to
differentiate ourselves from groups in other states with similar
names this was amended in 1977 to include in brackets, "SA" for
South Australia. That same non-profit identity remains today.
UFORA
UFO Research (SA) Inc. is an associate of the UFORA (UFO Research
Australia) network. UFORA is the Australia wide body which acts
as a network for researchers with a similar unbiased, scientific
approach. The aims of the network are:
(A) To stimulate Australian research into the UFO
phenomenon, on a without prejudice basis, in order to
better understand the cause(s) of the phenomenon, and
(B) To aid research by promoting co-operation between
interested parties.
UFORA also has direct contact with other serious researchers and
scientific authorities worldwide.
REPORTS
We have a total of 39 reports on file from 1992. (In the 70s we
would usually receive several hundred reports in a year.) Most of
these were clustered in the last half of the year. Two things
stand out during the year. First the 1st of October event from
the north of the state, generating 7 separate reports and
consisting of dozens of witnesses. Second there have been a
number of reports of orange lights travelling across the night
sky.
It appears that the October 1st event may have been a "re-entry"
of space junk into the earths atmosphere, however this has not
yet been confirmed. Investigations are continuing.
The orange lights are a bit of a mystery. There have been several
dozen similar reports from around Australia in recent months
including Perth, Sydney, Hobart and our own from SA. Some
(perhaps all?) can be attributed to hoax balloons. However some
do not seem to conform to the hoax balloon theory, and besides,
what has suddenly brought about an Australia wide "flap" of hoax
balloon launchers? Mystery... or mundane? We will keep you posted
of further reports.
What follows is a summary of most of the interesting SA reports
from all of 1992.

Report headings consist of: reference number, date of sighting,
time of sighting (24hr local), and location (suburb or nearest town).

SA92006 5/6/92 1655hrs Orroroo SA
A lady reported seeing an unusual cloud resting on ground, the
cloud rose up and dispersed leaving a black smoke "ring", this
then grew into another cloud which after a time also dispersed.
Nothing further seen. (Probably an unusual meteorological event.)
SA92009 5/7/92 1830hrs Glynde SA
A couple travelling SW in car on Paynham Rd. saw very bright
light half size of moon in southern sky. Stopped car by bowling
green. The light faded, revealing long oblong shape, with
windows, 2 red and one blue light and surrounded by "flickering"
white lights. The lights travelled NE, passed behind some trees,
came out the other side and shortly after were lost to view
behind hills in NE.
SA92011 31/7/92 0305hrs Nuriootpa SA
After seeing two flashes in the night sky, a male witness saw a
starlike object move rapidly upwards from the SW horizon, it
veered, then broke up into 6 or 7 pieces. Shortly afterwards, 4
lights in a square formation were seen approaching from the SW.
The lights travelled in a northerly and disappeared behind thin
cloud. No Sound. (The first part of sighting may have been a
meteor, the four lights... ?)
SA92013 31/8/92 2200hrs Heathfield SA
Leaving work for the evening, a man saw a fast moving, soundless
light. The object began to circle in the sky and grow brighter.
He then saw two other bright lights that were connected, 1
yellow, 1 green. They began to circle the first light. Then
suddenly, all the lights just disappeared.
SA92014 2/8/92 1105hrs North Plympton SA
A report of a "classic" disc seen cutting a gap through the cloud
cover during daylight hours.
SA92018 7/9/92 1912hrs Marleston SA
A man reported a bright light in SW sky Elev 30 Deg. After he
walked home object seemed to have moved to W sky Elev 10 Deg.
where it drifted, very slowly towards the horizon. (prob Venus)
SA92020 July? 92 Belalie Nth SA
A man reports an abduction like experience on the night that well
known "abductee", that lives nearby, died. Relates his abduction
and the death.
SA92021 1/10/92 1905hrs Warnertown SA
A woman travelling North on road to Pt Pirie just south of
Gladstone turn off saw two groups of approx 10 lights, forming a
straight line, with tail, travelling W to E in Northern sky.

SA92022 1/10/92 1908hrs Coltana SA
A man reported Three groups of "windows" in a straight line with
white tail like an afterburner. Travelling W to E in Northern
sky.
SA92023 1/10/92 1905hrs 10-15km SW of Mannahill
A woman reported 3 objects travelling from N to E. Objects were
brighter at the back end.
SA92024 1/10/92 1900hrs Clare SA
A man reports an object seen in NW sky brighter at rear than the
front with hazy glow around. Gliding along, low to Horiz.
SA92025 1/10/92 Broken Hill NSW
A man saw 2 lights in sky that moved W to E. 350 Deg to 40 Deg,
Elev 15-20 Deg. No noise.
SA92026 1/10/92 1907hrs Broken Hill NSW
A woman reported seeing 4 lights dropping out of sky, they then
levelled off. Then saw dark object with a dozen or so lights
travelling N to S. No sound.
SA92027 1/10/92 1955hrs (EST) Sth of Camerons Corner
A man Reported seeing lights in the sky, nearly overhead. Moving
W to E. Duration 5-10 sec.
SA92028 4/10/92 1930hrs Mildura NSW
A man travelling west between Mildura and Yambi reports seeing a
very bright "star" even though night was cloudy. After watching
the "star" for some time it dropped down out of the sky like a
falling star. Later saw similar star higher up in the sky and
"smaller".
SA92029 31/7/92 0340hrs Pt Pirie SA
A man saw a huge object pass slowly overhead at low level. 3
amber lights in front, thousands of "sparkling" green and blue
lights beneath huge oval object. (like football oval in the sky)
No sound.
SA92030 19/10/92 1930hrs Bridgewater SA
A woman saw a large (moon sized) orange ball of light in sky. The
light moved down, across, hovered, then pulsated several times
and just "went out".
SA92031 20/10/92 0005hrs and 0214hrs Plympton Sth SA
Two men each saw strange lights in the sky twice during the same
morning. First one orange light travelled from S to E. then
disappeared. Then at 0214, 3 orange lights moved from S to NE,
and disappeared.

SA92032 25/10/92 2300hrs Henley Beach SA
A man saw 2 spheres, orange in colour, in SSE sky travelling N
beneath cloud cover, then objects separated, going in opposite
directions. Both objects faded out like going through clouds, one
almost overhead. (see also SA92033)
SA92033 25/10/92 2300hrs Henley Beach SA
A man reported seeing two lights, orange red in colour, in NW
sky, beneath cloud cover. Objects moved apart and disappeared
like going through the clouds. (see also SA92032)
SA92034 15/11/92 2045hrs Goodwood SA
A man saw a large orange light over the Adelaide hills (West),
travelling towards East. Then saw second orange light, which
accelerated and caught up with first light. Both continued East
with a wobbly trajectory. Much brighter than Venus and no
flickering. Disappeared behind roof tops.
SA92035 30/11/92 1905hrs Valley View SA
A man in his garden saw a dark oval object heading from E to W
beneath cloud cover. Estimated height 3000/4000 ft. Three white
lights underneath, one in front, two at rear. No sound. Silver
reflection when caught by sunlight. After overhead, began climb
and continued until out of sight. Duration app. 2 min.
SA92037 10/12/92 0200hrs Elizabeth Nth SA
A man called to say he was woken by his son (who was very upset).
His son (5 yrs old) claims to have seen a tall "being" with long
thin legs, no arms, big head, and colours coming out of it,
standing in the lounge room. The being growled and the child
became very upset and began crying, waking his father.
SA92038 11/9/92 0030hrs Kensington Pk
A 49 yr old man and three other witnesses saw an orange light
moving across the sky from NW Elev. 80 Deg. to SE Elev. 10 Deg.
The light was steady and below clouds. There was no sound.
Duration 8 min. Disappeared over Mt Lofty, possibly going into
clouds.
SA92039 31/12/92 0125hrs Thebarton SA
While being driven (as a passenger) south, along South Rd. a man
saw what appeared to be a flat, translucent orange, "doorway"
like object hanging in the air above the road, several hundred
metres ahead. The object appeared to be at an angle to the line
of sight. Duration 3 sec. The object just disappeared.

happen.
