Wingmakers

The WingMakers are a narrative created in 1998 by James Mahu, presented as a transmedia project involving philosophy, music, poetry, and art. The story centers on a group of time-traveling beings from 750 years in the future who left behind a series of seven knowledge repositories, including an alleged time capsule discovered in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, in 1996. The narrative, promoted through the website wingmakers.com, includes claims of an extraterrestrial origin, a secret government cover-up by the NSA, and a future "Grand Portal" event around 2080. While the story has inspired a global community and a 25th-anniversary festival in the UK, investigations have concluded that the entire project is a work of fiction, likely orchestrated by Mark Hempel and James Mahu as an immersive art and philosophy experiment.
