- The solar system contains a twelfth planet (counting the Sun, Moon, and eight planets as the Sumerians did) called Nibiru
- Nibiru orbits the Sun on an extremely elongated elliptical orbit with a period of approximately 3,600 years
- Nibiru's inhabitants — the Anunnaki — are a technologically advanced humanoid species
- Approximately 450,000 years ago, the Anunnaki came to Earth to mine gold, which they needed to repair their planet's deteriorating atmosphere
The Creation of Humanity

- Anunnaki scientist Enki and his half-sister Ninhursag genetically engineered early hominids by combining Anunnaki DNA with Homo erectus DNA
- This genetic manipulation produced Homo sapiens — created specifically as a slave labor force
- The Biblical story of Adam and Eve reflects this genetic engineering event: the "Garden of Eden" was an Anunnaki facility in Mesopotamia
- The "forbidden fruit" was the genetic alteration that gave humans consciousness and self-awareness — something the Anunnaki ultimately decided to partially withhold
Human Civilization Under Anunnaki Rule

- Human kingship was created as an intermediate management layer: kings reported to the Anunnaki gods
- The Tower of Babel incident reflects a period when humanity's growing ambition threatened Anunnaki control
- The Great Flood (matching Noah's flood) was allowed or caused by a faction of Anunnaki; Enki warned the human Utnapishtim (the model for Noah) in defiance of the others
Nuclear War and Departure

- The "evil wind" described in the Lament for the City of Ur was radioactive fallout from this nuclear exchange
- Overwhelmed by the destruction they had caused, the Anunnaki departed Earth
- Humanity was left to govern itself, resulting in the relatively rapid rise and fall of successive civilizations
Sitchin's Legacy
[edit | edit source]Sitchin's books sold millions of copies worldwide and spawned an entire industry of derivative books, websites, documentary films, and conference circuits. His specific framework — the Anunnaki, Nibiru, the genetic engineering of humanity — has become the most widely recognized version of the ancient aliens hypothesis globally.
Academic scholars of Assyriology, Sumerology, and related fields have categorically rejected Sitchin's translations and interpretations. Semitic languages scholar Michael S. Heiser, who produced the most detailed scholarly critique, demonstrated that Sitchin's Sumerian word translations are inconsistent with Akkadian-Sumerian bilingual dictionaries produced by ancient scribes themselves. The Anunnaki as depicted by Sitchin — spacefaring aliens from Nibiru — do not appear in any Sumerian text.
