Bob Lazar -- Security Clearance: The Majestic Level Claim
Bob Lazar -- Security Clearance: The Majestic Level Claim
[edit | edit source]The Claimed Clearance
[edit | edit source]Lazar has described his security clearance at S-4 as a level he had not previously encountered, designated by the word "Majestic." He describes it as above the standard:
- Q clearance (used for nuclear weapons access; Department of Energy)
- Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI)
- Any standard special access program (SAP) clearance category
The word "Majestic" as a clearance level directly connects Lazar's account to the "Majestic 12" mythology -- the alleged secret committee established in 1947 to manage ET contact and recovered craft. Whether this connection is evidence that a "Majestic" program exists, or that Lazar incorporated the MJ-12 mythology into his story, is a central interpretive question.
The EG&G Hiring Process
[edit | edit source]Lazar described the hiring process for S-4 as conducted through contractor EG&G -- a defense contractor that operated access facilities for the Nevada Test Site and Groom Lake. He described interviews that felt more like an interrogation than a job interview, and a security process that was unlike anything in his prior experience. His claimed point of contact for the position was Dr. Edward Teller, who had apparently recommended him.
EG&G, when contacted by KLAS-TV during their investigation, stated they had no record of Lazar as an employee. This non-confirmation is cited both as a red flag (if Lazar worked there, why no record?) and as consistent with a program operating at a level of classification that would not leave standard HR footprints.
The Edward Teller Connection
[edit | edit source]Lazar's claim that Edward Teller recommended him for the S-4 position is one of the more remarkable elements of his account. Edward Teller (1908-2003) was one of the most significant nuclear physicists in American history -- co-developer of the hydrogen bomb, founder of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and a persistent advocate for classified advanced defense research.
Lazar says he met Teller at a lecture and that Teller was impressed enough by their conversation to facilitate his recruitment. No independent documentation of this claimed interaction has been found. Teller died in 2003 without publicly confirming or denying any connection to Lazar.
MJ-12 and the Majestic Clearance
[edit | edit source]The Majestic 12 documents -- alleged classified briefing papers describing the committee established by Truman in 1947 -- use the term "MAJIC" as a classification marking and describe the group as "Majestic Twelve." Lazar's use of the word "Majestic" to describe his clearance level has been read in two ways:
- Supporting MJ-12 reality: If the "Majestic" clearance level is real, it is consistent with the MJ-12 program's existence and suggests the program Lazar participated in falls under the MJ-12 umbrella or its successors
- Undermining Lazar's independence: If Lazar was familiar with the MJ-12 mythology (through his connection to John Lear, who was a significant figure in the MJ-12 discussion), his use of "Majestic" as his clearance level may reflect contamination from UFO mythology rather than genuine insider knowledge
The question cannot be resolved without access to classified records that do not appear in the public domain.
