Bob Lazar -- Sources, Bibliography, and Further Reading

Primary Sources: The Original Broadcasts

The foundational primary sources for the Lazar story are the 1989 KLAS-TV broadcasts by George Knapp. These have been partially archived and are available through various online archives:

  • KLAS-TV May 1989 broadcast -- the initial "Dennis" interview; face obscured, voice altered
  • KLAS-TV November 11, 13, 16, 1989 broadcasts -- Lazar unmasked; the expanded account
  • Billy Goodman Happening, KVEG Radio, December 20, 1989 -- radio interview with additional detail on briefing documents and Zeta Reticuli

These original broadcasts are the only primary source record from the period when Lazar's account was not yet contaminated by decades of public discussion, media coverage, and cultural penetration. Researchers comparing these to later interviews note the consistency of the core claims.

Documentaries

  • Corbell, Jeremy. Bob Lazar: Area 51 and Flying Saucers. Corbell Documentary, 2018/2019. Narrated by Mickey Rourke. Distributed via Netflix and other platforms. The most-viewed treatment of the Lazar story; advocacy-oriented but includes archival material and the FBI raid footage.
  • Vendittelli, Luigi. S4: The Bob Lazar Story. Amazon Prime Video, April 2026. Focused on the S-4 technical claims; different approach from Corbell's biographical framing.

Key Journalist Sources

  • George Knapp -- KLAS-TV Las Vegas; has published numerous follow-up reports and interviews across three decades; the most important primary journalistic source for the Lazar story. His investigative work, including finding the LANL phone book and newspaper article, represents the most significant independent verification of any element of Lazar's background.
  • McMillan, Tim. "Bob Lazar Says the FBI Raided Him to Recover Alien Fuel. We Asked the FBI." Vice/Motherboard, 2019. The best contemporaneous journalistic treatment of the 2017 FBI raid and its official explanation.

Skeptical Analysis

  • Friedman, Stanton T. Various public statements and interviews on the Lazar case; most accessible through his recorded lectures and the transcripts of his interviews discussing the credential problem. Friedman's assessment, given his specific expertise and his general UFO-supportive orientation, is among the most significant skeptical analyses.
  • "The Strange Case of Bob Lazar." Skeptic Magazine, May 2026. A contemporaneous skeptical assessment timed to the 2026 Vendittelli documentary release; notable for acknowledging the strengthened external scaffolding of Lazar's story while maintaining skepticism about the ET claims.

Area 51 Background

  • Jacobsen, Annie. Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base. Little, Brown, 2011. The most thoroughly researched non-conspiracy journalistic history of the confirmed programs at Groom Lake; essential context for understanding the facility's real history and security culture.
  • CIA. Central Intelligence Agency, Looking Back: A Peek into Area 51. 2013 FOIA release; available through CIA FOIA Reading Room. The official CIA history of Area 51's U-2 and related programs; the first official acknowledgment of the facility.

Scientific Sources on Element 115

  • Oganessian, Yu. Ts. et al. "Experiments on the synthesis of element 115 in the reaction 243Am(48Ca,xn)291-x115." Physical Review C 69, 021601(R), 2004. The original paper reporting the synthesis of element 115.
  • Hofmann, S. et al. Confirmation experiments at GSI, 2012. The independent confirmation that led to IUPAC official recognition.

Congressional Testimony

  • House Oversight Committee Hearing on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, July 26, 2023. Testimony of David Grusch, Ryan Graves, and David Fravor. Available through Congress.gov. The most significant Congressional UAP hearing; Grusch's testimony is the institutional analog to Lazar's 1989 claims.
