Why the Book Was Significant

Prior to 2012, the Cisco Grove case was documented in UFO research literature but without Shrum's name publicly attached to it. The case had circulated in UFO research circles for decades with the primary witness identified only by pseudonym or described without full identification, specifically because of Shrum's concerns about his security clearance and professional standing.

The 2012 publication represented a definitive change: Shrum, by then retired and free from the professional concerns that had kept him silent, chose to publicly associate his full name with the account and to provide the most complete version of the encounter he had ever given.

What the Book Added to the Record

According to Noe Torres, the book contained information "never previously revealed" about the encounter:

  • More specific details about the craft's appearance
  • Additional description of the entities' behavior during the night
  • The context of Shrum's Aerojet career and the security clearance implications
  • His family's response when he returned and reported the encounter
  • The details of the Air Force investigation and the pressure to accept alternative explanations
  • His visits to the site and what was found

The Interview Process

Noe Torres and Ruben Uriarte conducted extensive interviews with Shrum over a period of time before and during the book's production. The book also drew on previous interview material and case documentation accumulated over the decades since 1964. The combination of Shrum's own account, Torres's research, and Uriarte's MUFON investigative resources produced a more thoroughly documented case than had previously been publicly available.
