HAARP -- HAARP and 5G: The Frequency Convergence Conspiracy
HAARP -- HAARP and 5G: The Frequency Convergence Conspiracy
[edit | edit source]The Convergence
[edit | edit source]During the COVID-19 pandemic beginning in 2020, an existing body of 5G conspiracy theories merged with HAARP conspiracy theories to produce a combined narrative. At its peak, this convergence produced the specific claim that HAARP and 5G cellular networks were jointly being used to spread or activate COVID-19, modify human DNA, or control human populations through electromagnetic means.
The convergence reflects a broader conspiracy theory pattern: when multiple independent conspiracy theories share a common mechanism (electromagnetic manipulation), they tend to merge, with each theory lending credibility to the other through accumulated claims.
The Frequency Comparison
[edit | edit source]| Technology | Frequency Range | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| HAARP (IRI) | 2.8 to 10 MHz (HF band) | Heats ionosphere at 80-400 km altitude |
| 5G (sub-6 GHz) | 600 MHz to 6 GHz | Mobile telecommunications; cell tower transmission |
| 5G (mmWave) | 24 to 100 GHz | Short-range high-bandwidth mobile data |
| Human brain (EEG) | 0.5 to 100 Hz | Neurological electrical activity |
| HAARP ELF output | 3 to 300 Hz |
HAARP operates at 2.8-10 MHz. 5G operates at 600 MHz to 100 GHz. These are entirely different frequency ranges, separated by three to seven orders of magnitude. They are not the same technology, do not use the same physical mechanisms, and cannot be straightforwardly combined.
Why the Merger Happened Anyway
[edit | edit source]The HAARP-5G merger happened despite the frequency incompatibility because conspiracy theory mergers do not require technical compatibility -- they require shared narrative elements:
- Both involve electromagnetic signals
- Both involve government or military involvement (5G uses licensed spectrum regulated by government bodies)
- Both are claimed to affect human health
- Both are "invisible" -- you cannot see radio waves
- The proponents of each conspiracy theory are largely the same community
The Scientific Response
[edit | edit source]5G signals operate at frequencies and power levels that have been extensively studied for biological effects. The scientific consensus -- including from the World Health Organization and national health agencies -- is that 5G signals at the power levels used by commercial cellular networks do not cause the health effects claimed by critics.
HAARP's ELF output at brain-wave frequencies, while a legitimate area of scientific inquiry, operates at enormously lower power densities at population centers than would be needed to produce demonstrable neurological effects.
The specific claim that HAARP and 5G are jointly being used to control populations or spread disease requires both technologies to be doing things that neither is physically capable of doing at their respective power levels and frequencies.
